If I'm riding my bike and turning left, I hold my left arm out straight. If I'm turning right, I do the same with my right arm.
If I, say, held my left arm out (elbow bent or not), then turned right, I WOULD EXPECT TO BE KILLED BY A CAR. KILLED.
Turning signals for cyclists should follow common sense. What ever arm goes out, that's where you are turning. I feel very strongly about this. It is not rocket science.
I ride a bike at least four days out of seven.
